Another One for the Toolbox

I picked up this retort from a co-worker of mine last week and am pocketing it away for future use. Thought some of you might appreciate it as well.

Someone dropped that dreaded phrase, "I'm not a racist, but [insert racially loaded statement here]," and he came right back with, "Hm, I wonder someone who was  racist would think about that?"

Kind of like how the phrase "No offense, but..." is always followed by something offensive.

(I also like to imagine a scenario in which someone says, "You know, normally I'm a racist, but [insert intelligent, nuanced and accepting statement here].")

Well said- love Cheryl's comment- another phrase that irks me is, "I'm just sayin'." Usually what the person is saying is obnoxious and something that really doesn't need to be said... Great post!
