You May Have Noticed I'm a Nerd

Have you seen the report that one in four adults in America didn't read a single book last year? I realize there are literacy, educational, economic and cultural issues at play here. But I'm such the inveterate bookworm that the thought makes my head explode.

Our books sat in boxes almost a full year while we found and moved into our house. We'd look at homes with open floor plans and I would think, "But where do you go to read?" People asked how we were settling in and I'd tell them, "I miss my books." Just this month I began unpacking them into our newly installed bookshelves. I swear I had a near religious experience right there in my family room as I pulled the books out of their boxes. My preciousesssss.

*nods* I just read about this on another blog that I read (specifically about books) and my head almost exploded. Josh isn't as much of a book nerd as I am but he still reads a book a season, if not more.

My goal this year was 50 and I think I'm going to fall "just" short. Boohiss.

I haven't read the report but I'm a book nerd too.

I just about cried when I had to choose between which books to take to our apartment and which to store when we downsized earlier this year.

I'm not sure how many I've read this year, I should try to keep better track!

My favorite thing about moving into my apartment was that I would have room for more than two bookshelves. I created a reading room when it was just me living here, but my beau lives with me know so I just have bookcases in all the rooms. I do most of my reading on a windowseat. I don't know how other people live without books. I probably read at least fifty a year.

When hubby and I talk about our future dream house it always includes build in bookshelves - walls and walls of them. I would really love to have one of those little ladders on wheels to climb up to the top shelves...

A whole room devoted to reading...built-in shelves with ladders...you all are making me drool.

My basement is an absolute mess right now because we decided to store our books til we could get things straightened down there and bookcases up. Well... there are just some books you can't live without and you will dig until you find them!

Nerd shmerd... Reading is one of my joys, my escapes...

Another book nerd here...of course, it would figure that the blog writers would also, by and large, be readers as well.

One thing I insisted on when we finished our basement was building in some shelves in the corner office down there. I love them in the winter...I pull the recliner over next to the wood fire and stack books beside me and just soak it all in.

I can completely identify with this! Quite possibly the happiest moment of my life was when I found out there was a book shop in our town that sold English books!

It was only then that I thought I could really spend the rest of life out here. I still miss newspapers though.

that's ghastly, and it explains a great deal about our society . . .

How could anyone go a whole YEAR without reading a book?!?! When I travel, I have to make sure I have spares so I don't run out -- heaven forbid I'm stuck somewhere without a book!

Ha! We did the same thing when we moved :)

When I wanted a book, I would just go diving into the boxes which then created an entire spare bedroom filled with opened boxes and books spilling onto the floor.
